Wrapping Up the Term: Vectors, Progress & Christmas Wishes 🎄
As we reach the end of the autumn term, it feels like the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate everything that’s been achieved since the launch of the Maths Magician blog back in September. This blog marks the final post of the term — and what a term it’s been!
News & Updates
The most recent module added to Maths Magician is An Introduction to Vectors. This module introduces students to drawing vectors, reading vectors from a grid, and understanding direction and magnitude. Vectors are an important stepping stone into higher GCSE maths and beyond, and it’s been great to see students engaging confidently with this new topic.
Looking Back on the Term
Since Blog 1, we’ve covered a wide range of topics across the first term, including:
Core GCSE foundations
Algebraic manipulation and index laws
Calculator use
Sampling and statistics
Sequences and solving equations
Graphs, powers, and now vectors
Alongside this, the blog itself has become a regular space for updates, tips, puzzles, and celebration of progress — and it’s been fantastic to see students engaging with both the learning and the wider Maths Magician journey.
🔦 Level-Up Spotlight
The progress on Moodle this term has been outstanding. Several learners have now reached Level 5, with XP totals approaching — and even exceeding — 900 XP, which is a huge achievement. Many others are well established in Level 4, while strong progress continues across Levels 2 and 3.
More than 25 students have earned XP this fortnight alone, showing commitment right up to the end of term. Every badge unlocked and every progress bar filled represents genuine learning and effort — well done to everyone involved.
Puzzle of the Fortnight (Festive Edition!)
A quick Christmas challenge to finish the term:
A vector has a horizontal movement of 3 units right and a vertical movement of 4 units up.
👉 What is the magnitude of this vector?
(Hint: Think Pythagoras!)
Christmas Wishes
As the festive break begins, I’d like to wish all students and families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for the enthusiasm, effort, and support shown throughout this first term. I’m really proud of the progress made so far and excited for what’s to come in the new year.
Enjoy a well-earned rest — and I’ll see you in the new term for more maths magic! 🎄🧙♂️
