A New Year of Maths Magic ✨

Happy New Year! I hope everyone has had a restful and enjoyable break. As we move into the new year, I’m really looking forward to what promises to be another busy and exciting term on Maths Magician. The Christmas break has provided a short pause in lessons, but plenty has still been happening behind the scenes.

News & Updates

Over the past couple of weeks, two new modules have been added to Maths Magician:

  • Scale Factors, Diagrams and Maps – exploring enlargement, reduction, and how scale is used in real-life contexts such as maps and plans.

  • Direct Proportion – helping students recognise proportional relationships and apply them confidently in calculations and exam-style problems.

This week, a further module on Calculating Angles will be added, building on students’ understanding of angle rules and reasoning — an essential skill across both Foundation and Higher GCSE maths.

New Feature: Completion Progress

A new Completion Progress feature has now been added to Maths Magician on Moodle. This allows students to see, at a glance, which activities they’ve completed and which ones are still outstanding. It’s designed to help learners stay organised, track their progress through each module, and take more ownership of their learning.

Used alongside the Level-Up XP system, Completion Progress gives students both structure and motivation — knowing what to do next and seeing their achievements build over time.

🔦 Level-Up Spotlight

The Level-Up progress since Christmas has been outstanding. Some learners have now reached Level 6, with XP totals exceeding 1,200 points, which is a remarkable achievement. A strong group of students are progressing well through Level 5, while many others continue to move steadily through Levels 3 and 4.

More than 25 students are actively earning XP, showing great consistency and commitment as we head into the new year. Every point earned reflects practice, effort, and growing confidence — well done to everyone!

Looking Ahead

With new topics, improved progress tracking, and plenty of challenges still to come, this term is shaping up to be a really productive one. I’m excited to continue building Maths Magician throughout the year and to support students as they develop confidence and fluency in maths.

Here’s to a successful, hardworking, and rewarding year ahead — let’s make 2026 a great one for maths! 🧙‍♂️✨
