1. Purpose and scope of this policy
1.1
Maths Magician is an online mathematics tuition provider and subscription-based learning platform owned and operated by Clare Knight. We provide one-to-one online tuition together with access to online learning resources, the Parent Portal and other educational services designed to support students throughout their mathematical learning.
1.2
Maths Magician is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people who access our services.
1.3
The purpose of this policy is:
to protect children and young people who receive services from Maths Magician;
to provide parents, students and tutors with a clear understanding of our safeguarding responsibilities;
to explain how safeguarding concerns will be recognised, recorded and acted upon;
to ensure that safeguarding remains central to everything we do.
1.4
This policy applies to everyone working on behalf of Maths Magician, including tutors and any other authorised representatives.
2. Legal framework
2.1
This policy has been developed with reference to current safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance applicable in England, including:
Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE);
Working Together to Safeguard Children;
The Children Act 1989 and 2004;
The Education Act 2002;
The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006.

3. Our safeguarding principles
3.1
We believe that every child and young person has the right to learn in a safe, supportive and respectful environment.
3.2
Children and young people should never experience abuse or neglect of any kind.
3.3
We recognise our responsibility to promote the welfare of every student and to take appropriate action where safeguarding concerns arise.
3.4
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and we expect all tutors and those working on behalf of Maths Magician to uphold the highest professional standards.

The welfare of the child is paramount in every decision we make.
4.2
Working in partnership with parents, carers and, where appropriate, external agencies is essential in protecting children and promoting their wellbeing.
4.3
All children, regardless of age, disability, race, religion or belief, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation, have an equal right to protection from harm.
4.4
Some children may be more vulnerable due to previous experiences, additional educational needs, communication difficulties or other personal circumstances, and may require additional safeguarding measures.
4.5
Online tuition presents additional safeguarding responsibilities, including maintaining professional boundaries, ensuring safe online communication and protecting students within digital learning environments.
5. How we safeguard children
Maths Magician seeks to safeguard children and young people by:

Providing tuition through secure and appropriate online learning platforms.
5.2
Treating every student with dignity, respect and kindness.
5.3
Maintaining clear professional boundaries between tutors and students at all times.
5.4
Using official Maths Magician communication channels wherever reasonably possible and avoiding communication through personal social media accounts or unofficial messaging services.
5.5
Maintaining appropriate safeguarding training and ensuring tutors remain familiar with current safeguarding procedures.
5.6
Recording, storing and handling safeguarding information securely and confidentially.
5.7
Encouraging students and parents to raise safeguarding concerns whenever they feel something is not right.
5.8
Reporting safeguarding concerns promptly to the Designated Safeguarding Lead and, where appropriate, to external agencies.
5.9
Maintaining appropriate online safety measures throughout all aspects of the learning platform.
5.10
Creating an environment in which bullying, discrimination, harassment and inappropriate behaviour are not tolerated.
5.11
Reviewing safeguarding procedures regularly to ensure they remain effective and reflect current guidance.
6. Online safety
6.1
Maths Magician is committed to providing a safe online learning environment for all students.
6.2
Students should keep their account credentials secure and must not share their login details with anyone else.
6.3
Parents are encouraged to remain aware of their child’s online learning and to contact Maths Magician if they have any safeguarding concerns.
6.4
Any behaviour that compromises the safety or wellbeing of another user may result in suspension or termination of access to the learning platform.
7. Parent Portal
7.1
The Parent Portal has been developed to strengthen communication between Maths Magician and parents or guardians.
7.2
Parents are encouraged to use the Parent Portal to monitor learning progress, read tutor comments and access important information relating to their child’s education.
7.3
The Parent Portal should not be used to report urgent safeguarding concerns. Where an immediate safeguarding concern exists, parents should contact the appropriate emergency services or safeguarding agencies without delay.

9.2

10. Review of this policy
10.1
This policy will be reviewed at least annually, or sooner if legislation, statutory guidance or the services provided by Maths Magician change.
10.2
Maths Magician reserves the right to amend this policy from time to time. Updated versions will be published on the Maths Magician website and, where appropriate, parents will be notified of significant changes.
