Moving Shapes and Exploring Space: Translations & 3D Shapes
It’s been another busy and productive period on Maths Magician, with students continuing to make excellent progress across a wide range of topics. Since the last blog, two new modules have been added, and it’s been great to see how positively students are responding to the latest features on Moodle.
News & Updates
The first new module focuses on Translations, helping students understand how shapes move on a coordinate grid. This includes describing translations using vectors, recognising horizontal and vertical movement. Translations are a key GCSE topic and an important foundation for further work on transformations.
The second module explores the Properties of 3D Shapes, covering faces, edges, vertices.. This topic strengthens spatial awareness and supports problem-solving in geometry, nets, and surface area later in the course.
Completion Progress – Student Feedback
There has been lots of positive feedback about the new Completion Progress bars on Moodle. Students have found it really helpful to be able to see, at a glance, what they’ve completed and what still needs attention. This feature has made it easier to stay organised, set small goals, and keep momentum going through each module.
Combined with the Level-Up XP system, completion tracking is proving to be a powerful way to encourage independence and consistency.
🔦 Level-Up Spotlight
The XP progress this period has been outstanding. Several learners are now well into Level 6, with XP totals climbing beyond 1,400 points, which is a huge achievement. Others are making strong progress through Level 5, while steady movement continues across Levels 3 and 4.
More than 25 students are actively earning XP, showing continued engagement and effort. Every point earned represents practice, persistence, and growing confidence — fantastic work from everyone.
Looking Ahead
Over the coming weeks, more geometry and problem-solving modules will be added, continuing to build on the strong foundations already in place. With students engaging so positively with both the content and the progress tracking tools, it’s great to see Maths Magician continuing to grow as a structured, motivating learning space.
Keep up the excellent work — and keep an eye on those progress bars! 🧙♂️✨
