Building strong foundations - Unit 1 complete

With just one week of summer remaining, I hope everyone is making the most of these last relaxing days — and also beginning to feel ready for the fresh start that September always brings. A new school year means new opportunities, and here at Maths Magician things are already taking shape!

News & Updates

I’m delighted to share that Unit 1, covering the basics across all the main maths subjects for Foundation GCSE, is now fully complete. Every topic in this foundation unit has been carefully designed to build confidence and strengthen core skills.

To make progress visible (and fun), I’ve also created achievement badges, which students can earn as they move through the material. Current students now have their personalised learning plans in place, helping them to see exactly where they are, and what comes next.

Tips for Success

The beginning of term is the perfect moment to get organised: set clear goals, find a regular study routine, and build confidence step by step. Remember — consistency always beats last-minute cramming!

Puzzle of the Fortnight

Before we get going next week, here’s a little maths challenge to get your brain warmed up:

The Magic Number Puzzle

A number is multiplied by 3, then increased by 12. The result is the same as if the number had been doubled and then increased by 18.
👉 What is the number?

What’s Next?

In September, I’ll continue to roll out Unit 2 and add more interactive resources to the Moodle site. Watch this space for updates, tips, and of course, more puzzles!

Here’s to a smooth transition from summer sunshine back to mathematical problem-solving. Let’s make this year a great one.
